Les
Shields has come to "Seekers of the Lost,"
an agency that specializes in reunions. After having
attended his tenth high school reunion, he failed
to meet up with a particular classmate and is eager
to locate his whereabouts. The receptionist states
that some information came in on him and steps out
to locate it.
However, it isn't she who returns but Craig Fenimore,
the man in question. He appears affable enough, but
Les reveals him to be the chief nemesis of his junior
high and high school years. Though currently a success,
Les is still haunted by Craig's indignities, which
include verbal and physical taunting, terrifying his
disabled younger brother, and stealing one of his
most treasured possessions: a fourteen karat gold
guardian angel medallion that his grandfather had
given him on his sixteenth birthday. In order to move
forward, he needs to purge himself of these memories
and longs for one opportunity to settle the score.
Craig surpasses that thought with one of his own,
and the reason he has come to see Les: to ask for
his forgiveness.
After
confronting some demons of his own, he learned the
liabilities of his former persona: earning the fear
of everyone, but the love of no one. He admits his
transgressions and has turned his life around by learning
how to give. He reminds Les of the many good memories
associated with those years and urges him to place
his concentration there, and on the future that is
resplendent with possibilities for him. Les accepts
the apology and Craig leaves. When the receptionist
returns, she reports that Craig Fenimore had died
in 1992. On her desk is a trinket she holds up. It
is the guardian angel medallion of long ago, validating
Craig's word and reminding Les of the timeless power
of forgiveness.
